The Grotto della Valle di Maroggia has a history that dates back to the end of the 19th century. Originally characterized by two avenues dedicated to the game of bowls, the place was witness to lively moments of leisure. This activity continued until July 1944, when a slaughterhouse was built to support the company, specialized in the production of cured meats from Val Mara. Initially the property was divided by the road that led to the power plant, but through an exchange important changes were possible: the road was moved along the river and the land of the Grotto was joined into a single lot. The construction of the slaughterhouse was an important milestone for this family-run company, while the portion of the Grotto became the ideal place to spend summer evenings. The slaughterhouse activity continued until the 1980s - 1985. In 2005 a courageous decision was made: to renovate the part of the Grotto and restart the activity in the
