As early as 1400 there was a tavern on Kreuzplatz. The typical Zurich country house that still exists today was built in 1733. Back then it was the stately “Zur Linde” inn. In 1858 the doctor Bernhard Schlatter bought the house - for the first time it became a doctor's house. This was followed in 1898 by Dr. Lutz and in 1916 Dr. Escher, who provided medical care to the population. In 1942, the Schlatter heirs sold the house to the Wallisellen community, which gave it to the poor as a financial asset. Then it became increasingly dilapidated. After the people rejected the renovation in 1967, the Doctor's House Cooperative was founded, which converted the Doctor's House into a restaurant and congress center in 1975. In 1976, the Wirtschaft zum Doktorhaus opened its doors for the first time. Since January 2016, Christian Haller and his team have been running the restaurant at the Doctor's House with all of its rooms and offerings. The company reopened its doors in June 2023 after an intensive renovation phase. In addition to the restaurant and its countless event and function rooms, the new Doctor's House offers its guests a NEW all-day bistro.
