The Himalaya restaurant is run by Tendol and her husband Jamyang. Both have Tibetan roots and spent part of their lives in India, which led to their love for Indian cuisine. Both of them got their love for Tibetan cuisine from their mothers. Both Tendol and Jamyang describe their mothers as the best cooks in the world. After both gained gastronomy experience in both India and Switzerland, they decided to take over the restaurant at Ackerstrasse 52 in 2012, which is how the Himalaya restaurant was born. In 2015, Lhakyi joined us in the kitchen and since then they have been cooking together for guests with authentic Indian and Tibetan dishes based on Amala's (mother's) recipes. Her big goal is to bring Tibetan cuisine and thus Tibetan culture closer to her guests: “Other Tibetans keep Tibetan culture alive with different skills and our skill is cooking.”
