Passionate gardener Ernst Kleinpeter senior learned the profession of gardener in Uster between 1908 and 1911. After his training, he expanded his knowledge during many years of travel, which took him via Zurich and Solothurn to France. In 1922 he acquired the “Rietwis” property with over 5,000 square meters of cultivated land. After his marriage in 1924, more than 90 years ago, Ernst Kleinpeter founded his horticultural business in Egg. He found his customers on the “Zürichberg” and along “Lake Zurich”, because there was not much to be earned in Egg and the surrounding area at the time. In addition, ground cover crops are planted at the home in Egg, which are either sold or found in customer gardens. Son Max is also learning the gardening profession in Hombrechtikon and is also training to become a tree nurseryman. He also gained additional experience during his traveling years outside of his father's business. In 1964, Ernst Kleinpeter brought his son into the business to join him. Thanks to a good order situation during the boom, the former small business is now continuing to grow steadily. In 1973, Max Kleinpeter took over the company and expanded with the purchase of an additional nursery. A tree nursery and other crops will be created on the newly acquired “Mattenhof”.
